Tips on Taking Awesome Pet Photos

Its hard sometimes to capture your furry friends, especially when they want to place while you are trying to take pics of them or they just want to lick you constantly.  LOL!  My pups did this a lot when I first started taking pics of them, but now from some helpful tips that I read a long time ago I was able to get them to sit still long enough for me to take a good photo of them.  First tip - HAVE TONS OF TREATS CLOSE BY!

Here are some more helpful tips:
Like the photo above of Coco licking her lips, you can get this shot by sticking some peanut butter to the roof of your dog's mouth.  This way in the shot you can get him/her licking their lips!  :-)

I usually set my camera on continuous shooting, so that I can take a ton of photos one right after the other.  This way when you are going through the photos and you have duplicates, you can delete which ones you don't like and keep the ones that are fab.

To get their attention, I usually hold the squeaky plastic thing from the inside of toys above my head or right by the camera (that really gets them interested.  Don't know about your furbabies, but mine love to chew them up!)  If they get bored of the squeaker then I entice them with treats, by doing the same thing - holding it by the camera.

To make the photo less distracting, I really like using a white backdrop.  I love the clean cut of a white backdrop behind the pups.  For Dolce, since she is white, I use a black backdrop or some color drop, like pink, teal or green.

The studio photos are amazing and I absolutely love they way they look, but I do have to say that my fav is shots of the pups in natural sunlight.  Shooting photos of the pups outside in the natural light, gives you so much more of their personality.  Action shots are awesome and so playful!  You can catch them doing some funny things.

And last but not least, just keep those treats a coming.  I'm sure all your furbabies love treats.  I use CocoTherapy Coconut chips, Wellness Wellbites and some other goodies!

Product Review - Paws Aboard Life Jacket from Doggie Couture Shop

Just like we humans, many dogs love to swim; however, not all dogs know how to swim.   Some dogs are natural swimmers that love the water; some make do if all factors seem well; while other dogs are just terrified of the water.  If your dog is a good swimmer, he/she may lose their edge as they get older, or if they have gained weight.  Many larger breed dogs who develop hip or joint problems could end up having a tougher time in the water.  And, if your dog has low body fat, they can have a hard time staying afloat.   Most of all, a sudden fall into the water can cause fear and anxiety for any pet, making it hard for him to know what to do.  To ensure the safety of your dog around the water, your best bet is to have them wear a Paws Aboard life jacket made for canines.
To pick a jacket, several factors must be considered.  First, what are the water conditions – moving fast, tall waves, rocks, wildlife along the shore, docks where people might cause the dog excitement, boaters, large wakes?   Or maybe you are just going to be around the pool?  Consider all these things when making your choice of a pet life jacket – protect your dog just as you would your child.  Dog life jackets will keep your pet afloat until you or someone else can get to him/her.  This is critical to avoid drowning.
Some basic, common sense guidelines are to never leave your pet unattended while wearing a life jacket.  Life jackets can become hot in direct sunlight, especially if your pet is not in the water; so keep an eye on them to avoid overheating.  Most important is choosing a correct size life jacket for your pet – Pets weighing less than 18 lbs and 15-19 inches long will probably need an Extra Small; 15-25 lbs and 19-24 inches long, Small; 20-50 lbs and 22-29 inches long, Medium; 40-70 lbs and 26-35 inches long, Large; more than 70 lbs and 31-42 inches long, Extra Large.
Choose one perfect for your pet’s weight and length, take time to learn how to correctly put the life jacket on your pet, and enjoy the water this summer!  Paws Aboard life jackets come in a variety of colors - Pink polka dot, Blue polka dot, Camo, Nautical and Yellow.  You can get your Paws Aboard life jacket at Doggie Couture Shop!

Birthday Weekend Fun

Wow!  We had such a busy, fantastic weekend!  So, to start off the festivities, Friday night I made homemade dog treats for party favors and pup cakes for the pups on their big day!  I made coconut dog treats (recipe provided by Melissa at Two Palm Beach Pups), that were cut into heart shapes and Honey Crunch pup cakes, topped with pink yogurt chip icing!  They came out better than I thought they would.

I wanted to share the Honey Crunch Recipe with you all!  It is amazing.....taste bland to us, but the pups devoured them!

Ingredients
2 3/4 cups water
1/4 cup organic honey
1/4 teaspoon vanilla
4 cups whole wheat flour
1 cup granola (we went and got organic granola from New Seasons)
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 egg, beaten slightly

Directions
Preheat over to 350 degrees.  Spray muffin tin with cooling spray (I just put little cupcake cups in the muffin pan).  Mix all wet ingredients thoroughly.  Combine dry ingredients in separate bowl.  Add wet to dry slowly, scraping well to make sure no dry mixture is left.  Pour into muffin tins.  Bake for 15-20 mins or until toothpick inserted into center comes out dry.  Store in a sealed container.  Makes around 12-14 pup cakes.

Yeahhhh....Saturday, the big day!  We gathered all the presents, pup cakes, decorations and last but not least us and the birthday pups and their brother and headed over to Kelli's (Owner/Designer Cody & Company Pet Products) house.  Kelli had an amazing setup when we got there - she had the people food set out - varying from cut up fruit, chips, veggies and dip!  2 tables outside waiting for people and pups to surround them and her yard freshly lawn mowed and looked so cute!  We brought all the stuff in from the car and started decorating.  I went and got all HK everything that I could (purchased at Party City)!

Molly Mutt Dog Duvet - Recycle Reduce Reuse

I don't know about you all, but I hate throwing out old blankets, clothes and pillows.  I would rather recycle the items.  How cool is this - Molly Mutt Dog Duvet?  Molly Mutt dog duvet was designed so that you can make a dog bed out of your old clothes, blankets, etc.  All you have to do is, fill the duvet up with your items and then you got a dog bed for your best furry friend.

The Molly Mutt dog bed kits are an exciting new approach to keeping textiles out our landfills.  Ready to toss old clothes or old toys?  Throw them in your new duvet cover and you got the perfect bed, not to mention some extra space in your closet.  They also have a "stuff sack", made it as simple as grabbing old soft stuff, throwing it in the mesh bag & covering it all up with your new classy Molly Mutt dog duvet.

Here are some things that you can use to fill your duvet cover up with -

  • old clothes
  • blankets
  • pillows
  • stuffed animals
  • polyfill

I saw it for the first time at Global Pet Expo, but just ordered it from Posh Puppy Boutique and got it in yesterday!  Its fantastic.  I stuffed mine with 2 old pillows and some old pillow shams to get that right fluffy fill.  The pups absolutely love it.  As soon as I set it down on the floor they were digging at it, laying on it and rubbing themselves all over the bed.
Hope you all have a great day!

Fun day with Kelli & the girls

Catching up Saturday, Josh, Coco Chanel, Candie (we were fur babysitting this weekend) and I visited Kelli (Owner/Designer of Cody and Company).  It was a lot of fun .... she is a fabulous designer and I just love the clothes she makes.

I couldn't stop awwwwwing over Kelli's amazing setup for her sewing room!  It was absolutely fantastic.  She even had a dog wash room.  My dream house for sure!  I told her that when all the kids move out and Josh leaves for basic training that I would come live with her and her family!  LOL!  I adopted her younger daughter Hannah to be my little sister too! :-) We did a lot of chatting and laughing.  It was an awesome visit!

Kelli's babies, Stormie, Shimmer and Breezy, had such fun showing off their digs to Coco and Candie .... Kelli's daughter-in-law, P.J., fell in love with Candie so much.  I got to bring home some awesome goodies from Kel and the girls - I got this fantastic dog house, that the pups absolutely love, HK harness dresses, and I got some belly bands for my best friend Rebecca!

We totally enjoyed our visit and hope to be able to see them again real soon.
