Most pet owners travel at least once a year with their pets, according to a survey released May 4, 2010 by www.PetRelocation.com.
For its first annual Summer Pet Travel Survey, PetRelocation.com, a pet travel and transportation service provider, polled more than 6,000 pet owners worldwide in April. The majority of pet owners surveyed (61 percent) said they travel more than 50 miles with their pets at least once a year, with 38 percent of those pet owners stating that they travel as often as once a month with their pets.
Summer pet travel appears to be on many pet owners' agenda, according to the survey.
Fifty-seven percent of those polled said they planned on traveling with their pet within the next three months. Thirty-three percent said they planned on traveling with their pet within the next year.
Seventy-one percent of pet owners said they had never traveled internationally with their pets. However, the survey found that they majority of pet owners (51 percent) are considering international pet travel within the next year. Forty-two percent of those pet owners said they are making plans to travel internationally with their pets within the next year.
The survey found that pet-friendly travel is almost exclusively for dogs. More than half of the pet owners (61 percent) said they choose to travel with their dogs. Thirty-three percent said they travel with their cats.
Pet owners polled in the survey voiced frustrations with flying with pets. Thirty-eight percent of those surveyed said the most difficult part of pet travel is that airline fees are too expensive. Others said there is not enough of a selection of pet-friendly airlines.
How many times out of the year do you travel with your amazing furry companion? My husband and I take trips a lot and we like to take the pups with us. I do have to agree with the airline part - I would take the pups more with me on short flights if they weren't so spendy!

We take Chiqi everywhere with us. We travel quite a bit out of town to shop, and maybe 1 time every couple months to family 3 hours away. We always take her, she has lots of doggy cousins to play with there. Our 2 big dogs don't get to go much, but we are taking them all camping this year a lot since we got a new camp trailer! we would never travel with Zoe, (our cat) she does not like going bye bye. But I do know 2 cats who love travelling. They have their cute crates and they ride back and forth between two homes every weekend.
We go pretty much everywhere with our dogs. I refuse to board them, so if they can't come, we don't go. :)
Thats the same for us! I can't ever leave them at a boarding place. I have a friend that comes and stays with them at the house if we are unable to take them!
